FEATHERED NEST FRIDAY

I shared the newly rebuilt pergola (HERE if you missed it) yesterday
and several of you asked about the sheer panels
I used for the drapes and how I put them up.
    So here's more information~

The panels are tulle that I found at IKEA-
    2 panels for $4.99
    unbelievable price!!
    Love it!

They are extra long- and can be cut to length- they are not hemmed on the bottom
but they work well for outdoors as they are.

I purchased 10' long metal conduit poles at the hardware store-
    about $3.00 each
and the $.25 metal clips to hold them on.
I only had to purchase 2 new poles- three of the old ones were usable and the 4th pole
that had bent all crazy, I was able to use two sections of by cutting it.
You will need a hacksaw to cut the poles to the length you need
and an joint piece or extra clip if you need longer than 10 ft lengths and need to join two pieces.

(Just one more screw and it will be done...gotta love the tag!)

They work really well, because they are galvanized and don't rust easily.
Just attached them to the pergola frame and put the curtains on them just like a curtain rod.

    Voila!
    Instant romantic pergola!

    :)

A PAINTED LADY

I have spent days covered in primer and paint...

Scrubbing that white paint off of my hands, arms and even my legs...
(did you know that primer has great adhering power to skin?)

You know it's a problem when you pull into the store parking lot
and you check your makeup in the mirror
and find little bits of primer in your hair that did not come out in the shower...
    in several spots.
    :-/

I just pretended it was a fashion statement.
    You know-
a little bit of pizazz to brighten me up.
Kind of like when girls add glitter to their hair.

    Well, anyway,
the pergola is pretty much done.

It moved over to the patio off of our master bedroom for a couple different reasons.
The patio is a little larger and we were able to attach it to the house for more stability.
Plus, we have something else planned for the other patio area.

We decided on 3 columns instead of just 2 at the far end.
The span is larger so adding the middle column works well
and it creates a more substantial, elegant feel.

Cullan took this picture when they realized that they
had attached the beam to the house
    thru
the ladder and couldn't get the ladder down.
(they had to pull the beam back off and start over)

    Lol!
    Love it.

I was excited when we pulled the chandelier out from underneath the snow mishap mess
and found it to be intact.
A few bent leaves here and there, but that was all.

There are steps at the end of the patio that head up to the pea gravel and beach areas
so I requested (okay, I might have whined)
that the pergola be built a bit taller so that when you are
on the upper patios it did not seem too short.

The 'boys' put the pergola together over 2 chilly and on and off rainy
days during spring break - they did a fantastic job.
We were able to re-use most of the wood from the other one~
we just needed a few new boards for the added length and width.

As you can see the patio area is begging to be decorated...
I did get the drape panels back up-
I used metal conduit and clips and simple tulle drapes.

I haven't had time to get everything put back and pulled together yet
but next week, I will be sharing the finished patio.

I was so happy to put away my paint brush and start cleaning up!
I quickly changed clothes to take the dogs for a walk with my daughter and started
telling her how glad I was to be done painting...

My daughter started giggling as we were walking out of the yard-
so I looked over at the pergola and saw this...

    Like I said...
    I am almost finished.

Hope to see you tomorrow for
    Feathered Nest Friday!

VINTAGE BOTTLES

I love the sweet pale green
    of these vintage bottles

A soft opaque barely there color
that reminds me of bits of worn sea glass
that washes up on the shore

This petite inkwell is a most lovely pale blue...
so pretty paired with the pink of a camellia blossom
and the silver of the vintage pewter plate.

So excited to find 4 pewter plates ~
they will be wonderful hanging on the wall or at the table.

Such pretty green stripes with the pale creamy color on this vintage linen~
it was the bargain of my thrift store finds at .25 cents.
    ~
I tried some sepia tones on a couple photos this week.

Hope you all had a wonderful Blessed Easter!

Our extended family was in different areas this year
so instead of a big gathering ~
it was a quiet celebration of Easter blessings.

Bunny pancakes (with chocolate chip eyes),
    egg hunts, & Easter dinner

    :)

HAPPY EASTER~ FEATHERED NEST FRIDAY

I just love this tiny little nest.

It was found abandoned inside one of the topiary trees
that sit just outside our front door.
So much detail and work that a little mama bird put
    into this for her babies.
    It is so small ~
it fits just in the palm of your hand
and sits perfectly inside a little chippy vintage cherub wall planter.
    Simply sweet!!

    Happy Easter Everyone!

LITTLE RABBITS

Aren't these little white rabbits the sweetest?

They looked so lonely sitting on a shelf at the thrift store when
I found them a few years ago.
    I couldn't leave them behind.

This morning, they inspired a quick Easter brunch table setting.

Green 'lettuce' dishes over creamy white seashell plates
are topped off with a dainty shell bowl.

    Sweet little chocolate bunnies
hold place cards or a pretty Easter Greeting for your guests.

Pastel colored eggs & gorgeous lavender...

are perfect for a quick centerpiece.

    Brunch is served!

I took photos for this post with 2 different cameras.
One was a kodak digital camera and one was my trusty iphone3gs.
I have used my iphone for my blog photos since I started blogging~ but thought maybe I
should try a regular camera at some point.
Can you tell which is which?
    :)

I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all of my blog friends!
I am so tickled that you enjoy French Country Cottage and I appreciate
all of your support and friendship~ it really means so much to me!

I am knee- deep in painting right now...
I apologize for the quick post .
I hope to be sharing a finished product soon!!
Hope your week is going great!
