SHABBY FRENCH INSPIRATION

This little chair speaks perfect french vintage to me...
The old faded floral fabric... distressed wood frame... carved roses & details...

    I love this chair.
    With this shabby french fabric.

    A creamy tea stained background

    Faded pink roses
    &
    soft baby blue ribbons

Dainty rose garland swags, gorgeous baby roses wreath & delightful french scrolls.

I bought all they had- about 5 yards- probably 4 years ago...
Not sure what I would do with it at the time
but knew that I loved the pattern and french antique feel.

It has been folded in an armoire and I have thought about using it several times...
but didn't want to cut it. Crazy, huh?
Has anyone ever felt like that?

This is the before...my $20.00 thrift store chair
    Remember all those tacks?

    yeah... me too.
Next time I see an upholstered piece with tacks like that...
I might have to think twice.

I thought the beautiful french vintagey fabric would be gorgeous on this chair....
    but, you know...
then I would have to actually cut it to use it...

So... I upholstered the chair in a beautiful bold yellow floral...

Half way through...I did not love it...

I thought I would at least give it a few days to see if all of a sudden 'love' popped out at me.

    Uh...didn't happen.

    So this weekend...

I pulled out my frenchy fabric,
draped it over my chair... and cut it.
    YIKES!!
You know I measured about 50 times, to make sure I was using the most of each piece so I could save as much as possible...
I ironed as many wrinkles out as I could and started upholstering...

I got the back done first...

    Oooh La La!!!

Loved it immediately and so continued on with the seat.

Though, originally, I was thinking something bold and maybe bright-
a check, a bold floral or an elegant damask...

They just weren't working for me.

I decided I really wanted a french ticking- with soft faded color and dainty flowers-
but couldn't find any that I adored that worked with the chair.

But, I love this fabric for some of those same qualities.

The faded creamy white linen &
    old worn colors

    Elegant vines & dainty flowers

Originally I was planning to paint the chair and go with something really shabby inspired.

But the dark frame is perfectly distressed now-
thanks to the rigamarole we had getting the tacks out!

Dark wood paired with new vintagey fabric...

    It's shabby french love!
