PUPPY LOVE

'How much is that doggie in the window?
The one with the wagglely tail.
How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggie's for sale.'

I just love animal portraits and this one stole my heart when I saw it.
    What a little charmer!

Pastoral and animal portraits are loved in French Country decorating
and some of my favorite designers love to bring animal paintings in
    to their spaces.
Charles Faudree is my favorite and he is the king of
decorating with dog portraits in my book!
But here are some others too:

    Passionate for Interiors
I love the simple charm they have
and how adding a painting of an animal makes a room
feel welcoming and comfortable even among expensive furnishings.

I have searched high and low for the perfect vintage and vintage inspired
animal art pieces to bring home and they are not easy to come by.

So I was super excited when I found this vintage inspired
canvas art portrait of a little dog at Gallery Direct.
They have a lot of vintage art pieces as well as modern artist pieces
so there is something for everyone.
You choose the frame you like & your piece arrives
ready to hang in just a few days
AND they are having a sale right now~ 50% off wrapped canvas through Wednesday!

I love that they have so much vintage reproduction to choose from.
It's fantastic to find pieces that are similar to my inspirations
    in my design books

    I am loving him.
    :)

FEATHERED NEST FRIDAY & GIVEAWAY!

    Gotta love old burlap sacks.
I found a couple of half pieces at a thrift store recently
    and brought them home.

I wasn't sure just exactly what I would do with them
Fold them up and stack them.
    line an old basket
or make a few little outdoor pillow covers.

    The price was right
and even though they were a little beat up and only in half sections,
there was something about them that was so charming.

They just may pop into a basket for sale at a friends antique show this fall!
But I haven't sewn them closed yet
I am thinking a couple of ties maybe to keep it simple?
    Any ideas?

Crazy busy here with back to school schedules and projects!
    How's your week going?

A TALE OF A FRENCH SETTEE

Have you ever wondered if antiques could talk-
    what they would say?

What have they seen through the years
as they sat unassuming in the corner of the room?
Did they see history in the making?
    Hear secrets?

Or did they sit and gather dust in an old barn or attic
forgotten and just waiting to be rediscovered?

    I admit,
it's a little strange to think about a piece
of furniture and what it may have seen
    through it's years.
    But this beautiful settee...
    well, it just inspired me.

I imagine an old stone house
and a little place to sit for a spot for tea,
for reading a few pages of a good book,
for quiet conversation with a friend.

It sat through the years as the children grew...
as the hours that a young girl spent sitting and chatting with friends
turned to quiet moments with a new love.

I imagine that young woman has just married the love of her life
in the formal gardens at her home.

Tossing her veil and bouquet on that settee
as she left to chase the dreams that
    stood just before her.

I imagine that same girl bringing that old worn
little settee home with her to her own living room one day.
For a place to sit with tea & for quiet conversations with her own family.
    ~

This is one of those pieces that I just fell head over heels for when I saw it.
    (okay, that happens A LOT!)
Originally when I found this, I thought I would reupholster it...
The fabric is stringy and worn in places.
    The seat cushion- long gone
The wood is dinged up here and there...
    &
    I love it.

I love the wear and tear and shabby fabric.
I love the old lovebirds in the carvings at the back
and the dainty details at the legs.

Love it. Love it. Love it.

This was a little treasure I found when I purchased that set of
    Italian painted furniture on craigslist.
The woman selling the furniture was so sweet and as we sat to chat
we talked about this little dainty settee that was in her sitting area.

Ohh how I wanted it and she was selling it...
but someone already claimed it as theirs.

Keep me in mind, I told her.... Just in case.
A few weeks later, she called me and said if I wanted it
    it was mine.

It sits in my daughters bedroom piled with pillows.
Since her 'sitting area' was in the backyard...
I talked my daughter into  a few pictures.

She's a bit of a character this girl...

    Yes...carnation antennae...

I really don't know where she get's it from
    ;)
    hehehe

    Love her and her goofiness!!!

WEEKEND READING

While in Santa Cruz last weekend my sister and I
shopped a funky little bookstore where
I found a little weekend reading...

It came with a few ooohs...

    and a couple ahhhhs...

    and lots of
    'ohh, I Love this!'

It's par for the course when finding the
    latest copy of
    COUNTRY FRENCH
    magazine.

I am drooling over that bedskirt.

and this dining space and kitchen
    ~ love~

I am always so excited when I find that a new issue has come out
This one is fantastic as usual and I will be delving into it over and over.
I also found another good read at the same bookstore
    COASTAL LIVING
    BEACH COTTAGE ISSUE

Beach Cottage style is another love of mine.
The sand, the surf, the starfish and shells...

    Colorful, bright and cheery.
    Relaxed, casual, warm and inviting.

The rooms are always breezy and beautiful.

    Loving this magazine as well.

So fun to find a new favorite bookstore in Santa Cruz
especially since Borders has closed it doors.
I always enjoy stopping to pop my head in a couple local shops downtown.
Santa Cruz is an interesting, funky beach town if you have never been.
So while the kids were at the Boardwalk ~ my sister and I shopped.

    While we shopped,
we might have had a little mishap that involved
    an uneven sidewalk
    my right ankle
and a cup of freshly brewed Peets coffee...
    hehehe...
Well, it kept us laughing for hours AND I saved the coffee!
    Only a few drops spilled!

Did I ever tell you that I am a great source of entertainment?
    :)

I am finishing up a couple of projects this weekend~
I will be off to the fabric store this morning and am keeping my fingers crossed that
they have what I am looking for.

    GIVEAWAY!!

Also since it is my Birthday month...
